Squared Circle Bowl, Ettore Sottsass, Italy, 2015

Released in 2015 as part of The MoMA’s Design Memorabilia collection, this red Squared Circle bowl was designed by Ettore Sottsass in 1958. The MoMA delved into the archives of 32 notable Italian designer’s works in order to put their past designs into production for the first time. None of the products from the collection had ever been manufactured before, and were either specially produced for the collection or realised from old sketches. This bowl was part of a red, yellow, and green set, based on a 1958 sketch inspired by the traffic lights Sottsass saw during his first trip to New York while working for US designer George Nelson. It is in excellent condition with little surface wear.
