Ceramic Mug Set, Rodolfo Padilla, Mexico, 1970

Rodolfo Padilla is an accomplished mexican ceramicist and sculptor who grew up in his father’s ceramic studio. In 1981 he won a scholarship to study ceramic design and materials in Japan and then went on to continue his studies in Argentina and Italy. His most popular design, the Mug Tree, was formed of 6 angular mugs which slotted perfectly onto a wooden ‘tree’ stand.  This set contains the original 6 mugs but is missing the stand. One of the mugs has a chip in the rim (see photo 3), but the rest are in otherwise great used condition. Each has a signed Padilla signature to bottom, and some even still have the original stickers. The perfect size for a small black coffee.
